When my lovely friend and photographer Lou(@travelandthegirls) asked if I'd like to be a part of her publication, I jumped at the chance.
Having modelled for her before, I knew that anything that she would come up with would be pure magic. Lou embodies slow living and works to portray the feminine in its most natural way. Unfiltered and free. Her not the male gaze series is one of my favourites. She takes the bare female form and removes the lens of hyper-sexualisation, creating something truly beautiful.
I used this as my inspiration, as well as a couple photos that she sent me, to create a free verse poem, exploring the connection between the feminine and the natural world. We as womxn are connected to nature. You can't leave a little girl alone in the garden for more than five minutes without her trying to make a potion of petals and mud! Our cycles are tied to the moon and there is nothing more strong than the divine feminine.
Enjoy this little Excerpt:
My worries drift away with the clouds.
Softly.
softly
As if they were never there to begin with. Giving me a chance to take a breath and stand there with myself, listening to what I need to say.
Whether it comes in whispered thoughts or
An explosion of memories.
I lift my face to the sky,
each breath a moment of worship to the world that lives, grows, pulses with life.
