So I thought I'd give you all a chance to launch questions at me via Instagram and these were what I got. (I've left people's names out just in case they weren't happy with me sharing it)
"Favourite pastime?"
I like exploring new places. In summer we would go on all types of adventures around Cornwall and honestly that was probably my favourite pastime. Finding hidden beaches, swimming in the sea and practicing all the acrobatics we had learnt was honestly one of my happiest times.
That and reading books. Now with Uni work taking over my life it has to be one that is worth me finding time to read but when I get a gooden... Ooooo boy you won't be seeing me until tomorrow.
Also just being with my dogs... does that count?
"Where did you find the confidence to model? For someone who has zero confidence lol..."
It starts with simply putting yourself out there. I wouldn't consider myself a confident person but sometimes you gotta take that leap. When you are in front of the camera, you are there for a reason so everything else kind of leaves my head.
Having a good photographer can make all the difference. Someone who puts you at ease and talks to you is incredibly important, at least for me. It stops me thinking about "does this look right?" , "I am posing okay?" , "Is this what they want?" and just having fun, and trust me, the photos always look better when you can relax and not overthink. (Hard I know)
Maybe start with someone you know, my first shoot was with one of my close friends and that made everything easy. We could joke around and if I wasn't in quite the right position, she would just grab my face and move it!
So I would say:
Take the leap.
Remember that they are expecting you to model, so don't hold back.
Find the right photographer.
Pick shoots that you feel comfortable doing. (Don't say yes to a lingerie shoot unless you are happy to be photographed in your pants!)
Finally.... practice makes perfect, so don't be too hard on yourself if you don't like how you looked in that photo. It will improve in time.
"What inspired you to start modelling?"
I used to watch programmes such as America's Next Top Model as a kid with my mum and to be honest, I just loved the crazy shoots they would go through. I liked the fact that you could make a living out of people taking your photograph (as vain as that sounds) and it has led me to meet so many amazing photographers and friends. You just have to check out my modelling page to see how incredible they are, and pretty much all of them were students, just like me. I think one of the main things that inspired me to start was that even though it was something I always wanted to do, it was out of my comfort zone. Saying yes to that first shoot was a big step forward for me in terms of confidence and putting myself out there. So it was me making steps to a more confident self.
"What's the best thing about being a writer?"
Making things a reality. Nothing is impossible so long as you can imagine it. As cheesy as that sounds it's true. I can go from writing stuff like this blog, to a screenplay about an artist who is also a serial killer, to then moving onto a Pirate Queen who is sometimes paid to kill people. There really are no limits. Also getting your reader to feel real emotions over your fictional characters. That takes some skill, so when people tell me they cried at my story it's one of the best compliments ever, as morbid as that sounds.
"Favourite colour and why?"
RED. It is such a powerful colour and I feel all types of happy wearing it.
"Bananas?"
Sometimes.
